Volvo Trucks Announces Two Recalls

Volvo Trucks has issued two recalls, including one that covers nearly 18,000 of its 2011 and 2012 VNM, VNL, VHD and VAH models, whose windshield wiper motor can fail.

Both actions were posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

The second recall covered fewer than 400 of the 2013 and 2014 VNL model tractors with a Meritor RPL-20 driveline transmission, which NHTSA said “is too weak for this application and may fail.”

“In both cases, we’re notifying customers and requesting that those with vehicles manufactured within the stated timeframes visit their dealer,” Volvo spokesman Brandon Borgna said. “We’re also working with involved suppliers to address the issues.”

Meritor spokesman Robert Herta said, “We have provided our analysis to Volvo and are working with Volvo to assist in a solution. There is no evidence of design, manufacturing or quality issues in Meritor-supplied components.”
