USA Truck’s 1Q Loss Widens

USA Truck Thursday reported a $3 million first-quarter loss, compared with a $1.9 million loss a year ago. Per-share, the company lost 29 cents, compared with 18 cents last year.

Total revenue rose to $105.6 million, from $93.5 million, while trucking revenue rose 7.7% to $89.2 million, the truckload carrier said in a statement.

“Industry conditions, while still challenging, have improved,” Chief Executive Officer Clifton Beckham said. “Despite the earnings headwinds posed by surging diesel fuel prices and severe winter weather, we also experienced improved operational performance.”

USA Truck is ranked No. 50 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
