USA Truck reported a fourth-quarter loss of $4.4 million, or 42 cents per share, compared with a loss of $1.8 million, or 17 cents, a year ago.

Revenue slipped 1.7% to $100.3 million, the truckload carrier said late Monday.

Overall trucking industry tonnage improved but the “financial results are disappointing,” CEO Cliff Beckham said in a statement.

“Cost control efforts in our trucking segment were effective, but we simply did not make the necessary progress on load volume or pricing during the quarter,” he said.

“Nevertheless, we believe that improvements in our underlying operational performance will support higher freight volumes and rates” this year, Beckham said.

USA Truck is ranked No. 50 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
