The U.S. trade deficit narrowed 5.3% in September as a lower dollar boosted exports, the Commerce Department said.

The gap between imports and exports fell to $49.9 billion, from $51.5 billion in August.

Exports rose 0.3% to $145.1 billion, the most in more than two years. Imports fell 1% to $198.1 billion.

The deficit was at the high end of economists’ forecast of a $39 billion to $49 billion gap, Bloomberg reported.
