UPS Inc. plans to spend $80 million to expand its facility near Memphis International Airport, according to the development board of Memphis, Tenn.

The company plans to expand its 293,000-square-foot facility by 140,000 square feet and add a 54,000-gallon natural-gas fueling station for 59 new liquefied natural gas vehicles, according to the Economic Development Growth Engine for Memphis and Shelby County.

UPS is seeking a $6 million tax incentive, and the development council expects $9.7 million in new tax revenue from the project.

The addition is expected to add 15 jobs with an average salary of $42,037.

Memphis is home to FedEx Corp., which ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers. UPS ranks No. 1 on the for-hire TT 100.

On Nov. 14, it was announced Clean Energy Fuels Corp. had signed an agreement with UPS to provide LNG for its private stations in Mesquite, Texas, and Houston.

Under a separate agreement with UPS, Clean Energy said it will open three of its stations in Amarillo, Texas, Mesquite and San Antonio to support UPS’ over-the-road fleet.
