Universal Truckload Sees 3Q Net Income Fall

Universal Truckload Services Inc. said its net income in the third quarter dropped 8.7% to $13.7 million or 46 cents a share, from $15 million, or 50 cents, a year prior.

Revenue in the quarter grew to $261.7 million, from $256.9 million in the third quarter of 2012, the truckload carrier said.

"Our third-quarter 2013 operating results and financial performance are in line with our expectations,” CEO Scott Wolfe said in a statement. “Despite the heightened level of economic uncertainty due to the unsettling federal budget and debt- limit debates, which we think may moderate demand from our commercial customers, we remain focused on providing the highest level of services to our customers and on continuing our track record of profitable growth.”

Universal Truckload is ranked No. 26 on the Transport Topics Top 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
