Universal Logistics Acquires Michael’s Cartage

Universal Logistics Holdings Inc., an asset-light transportation and logistics company, acquired Michael’s Cartage Inc., according to an April 22 news release. Terms were not disclosed.

Headquartered in Bridgeview, Ill., Michael’s is a full-service intermodal drayage company. Universal Logistics officials said Michael’s Cartage has served the Midwest for 20 years.

Michael’s has a fleet of more than 130 tractors, providing intermodal drayage services primarily within a 300-mile radius of the Chicagoland area, according to Universal Logistics.

For the year that ended Dec. 31, 2018, Michael’s reported total operating revenues of $31.1 million.

Universal Logistics will operate Michael’s Cartage to operate as a subsidiary of Universal Intermodal Inc. CEO Jeff Rogers said his company is actively seeking opportunities in other key transportation markets, including Dallas, Atlanta and Kearny, N.J.
