TSA Offers Replacements for Unreadable TWIC Cards

The federal government will replace thousands of Transportation Worker Identification Credential cards that were improperly encoded and do not work with card readers, the Transportation Safety Administration said.

TSA said in a November notice that any card issued before April 5 could have truncated identification numbers stored in them, making them unreadable by the TWIC card readers some ports use.

TWIC card holders whose cards need to be read but do not work with card readers are eligible for free replacements, the agency said. Workers who do not require their cards to work with card readers can wait until they need a new card.

Card holders can find if their cards are eligible and how to replace them at TSA’s TWIC website.
