Trac Intermodal will raise the per diem rates about $1 on marine chassis rented as of Jan. 1, according to a notice sent to fleets.

Prices will rise to $21.25 per day in the Southeast, Gulf Coast and Mid-South regions. They will go up to $21.50 in the Central and Heartland regions, namely the Midwest and Great Plains. The fee will be $23.95 in the Rocky Mountain states and Northern California, $24.95 in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and $25.95 in the Pacific Northwest and Southern California.

The old rates ranged from $20.25 to $24.95 across the United States.

Trac told customers that the higher rates will fund the ongoing efforts to refurbish thousands of chassis to “like-new” condition with LED lights, radial tires and new braking systems.

“We have already upgraded 35% of our Metro Pool fleet [at the Port of New York and New Jersey] and 20% of our Trac Gulf Regional Pool [Gulf Coast region] fleet and will be supplying additional modernized equipment to these and other locations in the coming year,” the equipment provider wrote. “We have completed our conversion to 100% radial tires in the Mobile, Ala., market and will be expanding this program into additional markets.”
