Toll Rates to Increase in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said rates will increase Jan. 6 on the turnpike and other toll roads in the state.

The turnpike commission collects tolls on the 360-mile main line of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, in addition to the eastern branch and several shorter highways in the western part of the state.

On most highways, tolls for all vehicles, including trucks, rose 10% for cash users and 2% for drivers paying electronically with E-ZPass.

Tolls on the Southern Beltway near Pittsburgh rose 50% for cash users, but stayed the same for E-ZPass users. Since it opened in 2006, tolls had not increased on the Southern Beltway, also known as Pa. Turnpike 576.

The commission expected the increased tolls to raise an additional $25 million in 2013.
