Tester Admits to Defrauding Truckers

A woman has pleaded guilty in a federal court to a charge arising from a scheme to take truckers’ money for performing drug testing services without ever having a doctor review the results.

Sherrie L. Kaneaster owned a drug testing business that went under various names such as Sherrie’s Quality Services, Quality Services and Quality Specimen Collections. She did business with Portland-area trucking companies between 1995 and 1997.

According to a federal indictment, Kaneaster claimed that the drug tests had been reviewed by a qualified physician as federal regulations require. However, investigators found that was not the case. The indictment also said she told companies positive tests had been negative.

Kaneaster pleaded guilty to one count of falsely stating that a physician had reviewed a drug test during a hearing before a U.S. District Court judge in Portland. She faces a maximum term of five years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for April 21.
