Supreme Court Upholds Healthcare Law

The Supreme Court Thursday upheld President Obama’s healthcare law that expands insurance to millions of Americans, Bloomberg reported.

In a 5-4 vote, the court rule that Congress had the power to make Americans carry insurance or pay a penalty.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority opinion that the healthcare mandate can be upheld under Congress’ power to tax, Bloomberg said.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce said in a statement that the law is “fundamentally flawed” and that “it is imperative that policymakers and the business community now work together to develop and support genuine reforms that control costs, improve access, ensure quality and promote wellness.”
