The big snow storm that paralyzed parts of the Midwest Wednesday shut down traffic on Interstate 78 for about 50 miles near the junction with Interstate 81 in Lebanon County, Pa., the Allentown Morning Call reported Thursday on its Web site.Officials were advising motorists to use alternate routes, the paper reported.National Guard troops were using Humvees to help wake truckers who slept in their rigs on the highway so the trucks can be moved and the miles-long traffic jam freed up, the paper reported, citing a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman.Traffic started backing up Wednesday at about noon because two tractor-trailers couldn't make it up an incline, the paper said.Regionally, Ohio saw more than 1,200 accidents in the last two days from the huge storm, and airports as far east as New York had flights canceled or delayed, news reports said.(Click here for previous coverage.)
