SAN DIEGO — SkyBitz has introduced its next-generation trailer telematics system featuring an integrated cargo sensor and expanded capabilities to help fleets squeeze more utilization out of their trailers and intermodal containers.

The new product, named Kuantum, provides high-frequency, event-driven reporting of trailer location and empty or loaded status to help fleet operators maximize capacity and improve profitability.

“In the current environment, fleets of all sizes are looking to fully utilize drivers, trailers and container assets to protect their margins from sliding rates and runaway inflation,” Henry Popplewell, division vice president of SkyBitz, said in the Oct. 25 announcement. “Kuantum delivers essential, real-time information and insights for turning trailers faster to maximize revenue, cost savings and driver satisfaction.”

The Kuantum device features an ultrasonic cargo sensor, uses solar energy to recharge an internal battery and is engineered to provide maintenance-free service for the life of a trailer.

The device mounts on the front of a trailer and acts as a gateway to connect multiple wireless sensors in the SkyBitz SmartTrailer ecosystem.

Kuantum, which replaces SkyBitz’s GXT5002C trailer telematics system, is Bluetooth-enabled and operates on the 4G LTE wireless network with 5G compatibility.

SkyBitz showcased the new telematics platform here at American Trucking Associations’ 2022 Management Conference & Exhibition.
