Senators Propose Drug-Testing Database

Sens. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and John Boozman (R-Ark.) introduced a bill last week that would establish a database of drug testing information for truck and bus drivers.

The Safe Roads Act, introduced Thursday, would require medical review officers, employers and service agents to report positive driver drug and alcohol tests to the database.

Drivers’ prospective employers would be able to view the data before making hiring decisions.

The lawmakers said the legislation will close a loophole that allows truck and bus drivers to work even after testing positive.
