The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation approved Christopher Hart as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board on Feb. 26, sending the nomination to the full Senate.

The White House initially had nominated Hart to the post last year, but the 113th Congress failed to act before it adjourned in December.

Hart became acting chairman in April 2014 when Deborah Hersman left the post. He had been vice chairman since 2009.
