Senate Confirms Carlos Monje Jr. for Assistant Secretary of Transportation

The U.S. Senate voted 94-0 on March 16 to approve the nomination of Carlos Monje Jr., of Louisiana, to be assistant secretary of Transportation for Policy.

Monje will replace Polly Trottenberg, who announced her resignation Dec. 31, 2013, to become New York City’s transportation  commissioner under Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Monje has been counselor to the secretary at the Department of Transportation since February 2014.  From 2011 to 2014, Monje served as special assistant to the president and chief of staff of the Domestic Policy Council, and from 2009 to 2011, he was DPC’s senior policy advisor.

From 2007 to 2008, Monje was deputy policy director for President Obama for America and was special assistant for policy and communications to then U.S. Sen. Obama from 2006 to 2007.

Monje, who's from Louisiana, previously worked as a policy and press aide in the Senate and on a number of federal and statewide electoral campaigns.
