Schneider National said Wednesday its intermodal division has completed a three-year conversion project replacing its mixed trailer/container fleet to an all-container fleet.

The company said its investment highlights its long-term commitment to intermodal transportation.

“Current economic realities require that shippers scrutinize every aspect of their supply chain in search of energy efficiencies and cost savings,” in a statement intermodal unit president Bill Matheson.

“Our 53-foot container-focused service makes it even easier for customers to leverage Schneider Intermodal’s trucklike service and the environmental benefits that come with shipping by rail,” he said in a statement.

Schneider, which also has truckload and other trucking operations, entered the intermodal market in 1991.

Schneider National is ranked No. 9 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
