Ryder System said it has opened two natural-gas fueling stations in California open to the public.

Each station, located at Ryder fueling and maintenance facilities in Orange and Fontana, has two compressed natural gas pumps and a liquefied natural gas pump.

The stations are Ryder’s first to be open to the public as well as the company’s lease and maintenance customers.

The company also said it has deployed 202 heavy duty natural gas-powered trucks in the region.

“Our business model puts us in a unique position to enable more fleets to convert to natural gas and realize the benefits of this cost-effective, clean and domestic energy source,” Ryder CEO Robert Sanchez said in a statement.

“We are proud to make this investment in fueling infrastructure, which will further support the wider adoption of natural-gas vehicles for commercial transport,” he said.

The stations are part of a public/private partnership between Ryder and the San Bernardino Associated Governments as well as the U.S. Department of Energy and the California Energy Commission.

Ryder’s subsidiary, Ryder Supply Chain Solutions, Miami, is ranked No. 10 on the Transport Topics Top 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
