Renewable Energy Acquires Two Biodiesel Plants

Renewable Energy Group has acquired two biodiesel plants, making it North America's largest biodiesel manufacturer, the company said.

Owners of facilities in Newton, Iowa and Danville, Ill., decided in February to sell the facilities to REG in all-stock transactions, REG said Monday.

The Iowa plant produces 30 million gallons per year, while the Illinois plant produces 45 million gallons per year. REG-owned facilities are now capable of producing 122 million gallons of biodiesel per year, the company said.

REG also owns facilities in Ralston, Iowa and Houston. In addition, REG manages five other plants totaling 180 million gallons per year of capacity.
