Public Can Share Input on Vision Waiver Requests

The public may share input about the applications of 23 truck drivers who are requesting a waiver so they may drive commercial trucks despite eye impairments, federal trucking regulators announced June 28.

The input will be evaluated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The comment deadline is July 28, and waivers will be issued the following day, the agency indicated.

As the result of impairments in one eye, the truck drivers are not meeting the standards to operate commercial trucks. Their conditions include amblyopia and retinal detachment. The drivers provided the agency medical evaluations validating their qualifications.

Information about the applications are in the Federal Register.
