Protesters March on West Coast Ports

Protesters from the Occupy movement marched on West Coast ports including in Oakland and Long Beach, Calif., Monday, in an effort to shut down the facilities, news reports said.

Some protests at the Port of Long Beach included Teamsters union members, the Los Angeles Times reported on its website.

Occupy movement protesters last month briefly halted operations at the Port of Oakland.

The protests were not sanctioned by dockworkers’ unions, and police threatened to arrest protesters at several ports, the Times said.

Protests were also planned at the ports of Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland, Ore.; Seattle; and Tacoma, Wash.; as well as Vancouver, British Columbia and Anchorage, Alaska, CNN reported on its website.
