Prime Inc. has purchased 2,500 refrigerated trailers from Utility Trailer, the largest single order in the manufacturer’s history.

The model 3000R reefers will be equipped with fuel-efficiency components, including aerodynamic side skirts as well as safety features such as special air disc brakes and a suspension system designed for increased roll stability, according to Utility.

“Our focus on safety, efficiency and sustainability were the major factors in this purchase. Our commitment to these principles is the pinnacle reason for our partnership with Utility. It is a privilege to have them as a partner that understands our corporate philosophy,” Paul Higgins, Prime’s director of maintenance, said in a statement.

Prime bought the trailers from Utility Trailer Sales of the Ozarks in Springfield, Missouri. Since Prime’s first order of 450 trailers from the dealer in 2009, the carrier has purchased 5,000 reefers from the dealership.

The units will be built at Utility’s factories in Utah and Virginia.

Prime Inc., based in Springfield, Missouri, ranks No. 22 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
