The Port of Virginia has announced the formation of a motor carrier task force to suggest solutions to delays at the port’s state-controlled marine terminals that affect the ability of truck drivers to efficiently move cargo.

The task force will be focused on safety, reducing turn times, cutting wait time at the gates and chassis availability, port CEO John Reinhart said in a Feb. 20 statement.

Those serving on the task force will include representatives from the motor carriers, service providers, the International Longshoremen's Association, ocean carriers, shippers and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, port officials said.
