Peterbilt Unveils New 567 Vocational Truck, More Versions of 579

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Peterbilt Motors Co. introduced a new heavy-duty vocational truck here Wednesday, the 567, with “perfect timing” to coincide with the long-awaited improvement in the housing and construction industries.

General Manager Bill Kozek said at a Mid-America Trucking Show press conference that the 567 could be used by the construction industry and road builders as a dump truck, concrete mixer or a hauler of construction equipment. Production of the new vocational truck begins in June.

Kenworth Trucks, also a part of Paccar Inc., introduced a vocational vehicle here, the T880, earlier on Wednesday.

For highway tractors, Peterbilt added variations to the 579 introduced a year ago at MATS. The Denton, Texas, manufacturer added an 80-inch sleeper and a 44-inch model to complement the 72-inch sleeper from last year. There is also a double-bunk option for the sleeper.

While last year’s 579 was 123 inches from bumper to back of cab, now there is also a 117-inch BBC version.

The company also introduced a new SmartAir in-cab HVAC system from Bergstrom Inc. and improvements to its SmartNav communications system.
