Paccar Inc., the parent of Kenworth Truck Co., will temporarily shut down production at Kenworth’s Chillicothe, Ohio, plant, the Chillicothe Gazette reported. The production halt is due to a pause in the receipt of engines, the paper said, adding that the facility is waiting for engines to arrive for about 150 trucks. The plant will be closed next month and there will be some worker layoffs as the plant’s build rate is adjusted, the paper said, citing a Paccar official. Production rates for Paccar and other truck makers have slowed this year, following new Environmental Protection Agency emissions rules for diesel engines that took effect Jan. 1.Paccar said in November it planned to cut shifts at the Kenworth plant at its Renton, Wash., headquarters and its Peterbilt Motors plant near Nashville, Tenn.(Click here for previous coverage.)
