Out-of-Service Rate for Brake Violations Lowest in More Than 15 Years

The out-of-service rate for brake-related violations dropped to 13.5%  from 15.3% last year, the lowest rate of OOS brake violations in more than 15 years, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance announced last week.

“This is encouraging news,” said CVSA President Tom Fuller, a sergeant with the New York State Police. “Maintenance is a critical part of vehicle and carrier safety performance, brakes especially.”

CVSA said that 20,067 commercial vehicles were inspected in North America during the group’s Brake Safety Week event from Sept. 8-14, with 2,714 vehicles placed out-of-service for brake violations.

The out-of-service rate was 9% for brake-adjustment violations and 7.1% for brake components, CVSA said.
