Oregon County Using Cameras to Monitor Truckers’ Seat-Belt Use

The Clackamas County, Ore., sheriff’s office is using high-tech cameras to catch truck drivers who don’t buckle up, the Oregonian newspaper reported Tuesday.

Using a camera with an extended lens, the system takes and transmit photos of truckers to the camera phones of deputies, who can hand out $97 tickets to beltless drivers, the paper reported.

The camera shoots 10 frames a second, and a Bluetooth connection uploads images to a secure Web site, from where they are sent to officers, the Oregonian said.
