Technology startup ONE20 has launched a free membership program that enables drivers to use a mobile application to plan trips, check parking availability, read and write reviews and find discounts.

The ONE20 app, available on Android and Apple devices, also includes truck-specific navigation software that includes traffic, weather, estimated time of arrival and route planning tools.

The program, launched Aug. 24, also includes off-duty tools such as a truck parking locator and point-of-interest ratings based on crowdsourced data from other truckers. Users will also have access to discounts from ONE20 partners on items ranging from food and showers to lodging and trucking services, the company said.

Drivers can also access these features by purchasing the ONE20 tablet — a Samsung Galaxy Tab E 8-inch Android tablet with wireless service from AT&T. The ONE20 tablet will be available online at Amazon.com and in stores at more than 1,500 travel center locations starting in the fourth quarter.

“Until now, technology has been part of the problem, not the solution, because mobile devices and apps have all been developed with the fleet or general consumer, rather than the driver, in mind,” said Christian Schenk, founder and CEO of ONE20. Schenk is a former executive at XRS Corp.

Ryan Barnett, vice president of marketing, said ONE20 is working to develop services that extend beyond the app.

“We’re really trying to build a community of drivers who help each other out,” he said.

ONE20 also operates TruckThat.com, a web and social media platform where drivers can express their thoughts and views about life on the road.

Barnett said ONE20 also has plans to launch an electronic logging device focused on helping drivers comply with the upcoming ELD mandate, which is set to go into effect in December 2017.
