One Leg of Keystone Pipeline to Be Built

Trans Canada said it plans to build the portion of the Keystone XL Pipeline that would run from Cushing, Okla., to Texas refineries as a stand-alone project that could be completed next year.

The pipeline’s southern leg has not been as controversial as the northern leg which would cross the Canadian border to transport oil sands crude from Alberta, and crude oil from North Dakota and Montana, Bloomberg reported.

After President Obama said the proposed Keystone route needed further study, the U.S. State Department in January put a hold on the project.

But Obama said his administration welcomed construction on the southern leg, which is intended to alleviate a supply glut in the Midwest.
