One Day’s Events Show Tough Task for TSA

Security breaches and flight delays have dogged the Transportation Security Administration since it has assumed authority of airport security, USA Today reported Wednesday.

A government report obtained by the paper chronicled some of the mishaps and misadventures of just one day when the number of breaches, violations, evacuations and deplanings averaged nearly one per hour.

Flight delays affect the activities of trucks engaging in the pick up and delivery of air cargo.

On Feb. 22, just five days after the TSA assumed responsibility for airport security, there were 23 breaches in security, the paper said.

In all, 28 flights were delayed that day, for a total of 23 hours and 20 minutes, demonstrating the tangible impact of such security lapses.

In the first 38 days that the TSA secured the nation’s 429 commercial airports, USA Today said screeners found nearly 500,000 knives, box cutters or other weapons. It also made 201 arrests and delayed an average of 45 flights per day for security reasons.
