Oil prices fell 43 cents Friday to just over $72 a barrel but gained $2.75 this week, Bloomberg reported.

Crude futures closed the trading week at $72.04 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, up from $69.29 last Friday.

Oil hit $73.16 in intraday trading Thursday, the highest price in two weeks, Bloomberg said.

Analysts were split on the direction fuel prices might take, as distillate fuel supplies — which include diesel — rose 2.2 million barrels last week to 167.8 million barrels, the highest level in more than 26 years.

The Energy Department will release its weekly survey of pump fuel prices Monday in Washington.
