Ohio Eyes Higher Fines for Overweight Trucks

The Ohio State Patrol wants higher fines for trucks carrying overweight loads, the Associated Press reported Monday.

Several companies were cited repeatedly last year, and officials said that shows the fines should be higher, AP said.

An analysis by the Dayton Daily News found that Ohio’s fines for overweight trucks, usually several hundred dollars for 10,000 pounds of excess weight, are in the lowest 25% of all states, AP reported.

They are slightly higher than Kentucky and West Virginia, but are far lower than in other neighboring states, AP said.
