President Obama and Vice President Biden toured an International Trucks dealership in Maryland Friday following the release of the government’s monthly jobs report.

The two met with employees of K. Neal International Trucks, a truck dealership and truck parts supplier in Hyattsville, Md., according to the White House’s blog.

The president later in the day flew to Louisiana to deal with the ongoing oil crisis in the Gulf of Mexico, news services reported.

After touring the International facility with Stephen Neal, the dealership’s president, President Obama commented on the nation’s May jobs report, which the Labor Department released early Friday. International is owned by Navistar International Corp.

“This is a business that has been selling commercial trucks for over 40 years,” Obama said. “After two years of recession that caused so much pain in so many communities, this is also an example of a company that is starting to see business pick up again.”

Obama acknowledged that both General Motors and Chrysler have added manufacturing shifts, operating at a profit and repaying their taxpayer loans, according to the National Automobile Dealers Association.

The president also said that investments in new technology — such as Navistar’s new electric delivery truck, manufactured in Indiana — is creating the new jobs of tomorrow, NADA reported on its Web site.
