Rookie Competitor Eric Stein Had All the Ingredients to Win Nebraska's Grand Champion Title

Eric Stein’s grandfather always used to tell him, “Find something you love to do, and then find somebody to pay you to do it.”
Stein found just that seven years ago when he started driving for Werner Enterprises.
And it turns out he not only loves driving, but he’s also incredibly skilled at it.

2019 Preview
When: May 31 - June 1, 2019
Where: Grand Island, Neb.
Field: More than 100 truck drivers are expected to compete in nine categories.
Preview: 2018 Grand Champion Tim Dean of Werner Enterprises will be back to defend his overall crown as well as his first-place finish in sleeper berth. Truckers Against Trafficking will have trailer on display. Retiring volunteers will be honored who collectively have more than 150 years of volunteer service to the event.

Nebraska Grand Champion Tim Dean Has Been Down This Road Before
Nebraska 2018 Grand Champion Tim Dean has won eight state championships, placed second at the National Truck Driving Championship in 2009 and served as a member of the 2009-2010 America’s Road Team. To say he is experienced is an understatement.
His trucking career began 30 years ago as a way to make money. Now 54, Dean has 3.9 million safety miles and spends time mentoring younger truck drivers. As he prepares for nationals this year, he isn’t scared — he’s excited and nervous.
“Knowing and having been to nationals, everybody there is the best of the best,” the Werner Enterprises employee said. “We are all like-minded professional drivers... It’s gonna be a lot of family reunions.”
