Norfolk Southern Releases Strategy to Reduce Greenhouse-Gas Emissions

Norfolk Southern Corp. released its business strategy for reducing greenhouse-gas emissions in an annual public filing with the not-for-profit Carbon Disclosure Project.

The strategy highlights purchasing more fuel-efficient trains, making infrastructural improvements and continuing research and development of alternative power as key initiatives.

“Efforts to improve our performance and to mitigate the environmental impacts of business operations are part of daily life on our railroad,” Norfolk Southern vice president, real estate and corporate sustainability officer, Blair Wimbush, said in a statement.

Norfolk Southern serves every major container port and operates the biggest intermodal network in the Eastern United States.
