NHTSA Wants Comments on Event Data Recorders

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Oct. 11 asked for comments on event-data recorders to help with motor-vehicle crash investigations.

NHTSA has said it believes EDRs, which are similar to black boxes in airliners, provide valuable information in accidents that could improve motor vehicle safety.

However, the agency probably is still years away from recommending any action, an industry expert said.
