Navistar Starts Rebuild Venture

CHICAGO — Navistar International Corp. announced a joint venture with a subsidiary of Delco Remy International to be the worldwide remanufacturer of International brand diesel engines and some private label engines that Navistar makes for others.

The joint venture gets its own name: Magnum Power Products.

Power Investments, the Delco Remy subsidiary, will provide the remanufacturing expertise and Navistar will provide the technical and engineering support, according to the announcement.

Magnum Power’s first responsibility will be rebuilding the International T444E direct-injection V-8 diesel and the 7.3L V-8 Ford Power Stroke turbo diesel. Covered in the agreement are related engine components, including cylinder blocks, connecting rods, crankshafts, cylinder heads, water pumps and high-pressure fuel pumps.

Navistar officials said demand for V-8 diesels is rapidly growing.

Navistar is one of the principal builders of Class 8 diesel-powered tractors for the U.S. over-the-road commercial market. It also produces 160- to 300-horsepower mid-range diesel engines for the International brand as well as diesel engines for other brands’ pickup trucks, vans and off-highway industrial vehicles.
