Navistar Inc. said it was planning a new mission with a focus on maximizing uptime and keeping customers’ trucks on the road.

“Uptime means more than designing and building trucks to stay on the road longer,” said Bill Kozek, the company’s president of truck and parts. “It’s our renewed commitment to deliver innovation, tools and services that keep our customers moving [and] is a pledge by our people to deliver beyond expectations, and it’s their drive to be better every day.”

The Feb. 4 announcement came as Navistar hosted an investors day at its Lisle, Illinois, headquarters.

Navistar said the uptime focus will include truck design and integration, in which its engineers “will collaborate with component suppliers to design vehicles with superior performance.”

The company said it will continue to enhance uptime with its OnCommand Connection, a remote diagnostics system that provides customers visibility to the health of their entire fleet through a single portal.

It said its real-time quality metrics and validation will put vehicles through a comprehensive process to ensure they leave the plant defect-free.

Navistar said its parts and service operations include a distribution and dealer network with more than 800 locations, 10,000 trained technicians and more than 8,000 service bays to keep customers on the road.
