Navistar Gets $880 Million Contract for MRAP Upgrades

Navistar Defense, a unit of Navistar International Corp., received an $880 million order from the U.S. government to upgrade military vehicles.

The company will upgrade more than 2,700 International MaxxPro Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles, Navistar said in a statement.

The U.S Marine Corps order calls for MaxxPro units to be upgraded with Navsitar’s rolling chassis and includes engineering changes, supplies and services.

Navistar has fielded nearly 9,000 MaxxPro vehicles and continues to anticipate needed vehicle capabilities and enhancements for its entire fleet of 32,000 vehicles.



Work will begin at the company's West Point, Miss., assembly facility this month and is scheduled for completion in October 2013.

Navistar makes International brand trucks.
