HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Navistar Inc. showed off its new heavy-duty engine plant here this week, as truck dealers, stock market analysts and trucking reporters were taken on tours of the new plant that is boosting its output with a larger, 15-liter engine.

Navistar Chairman and CEO Daniel Ustian hosted the events, joining journalists touring the facility where 114 employees produce 125 of the 13-liter MaxxForce engines each day.

The plant, located next to this city’s airport and adjacent to a Navistar medium-duty engine plant, will soon add the company’s new 15-liter engine to its line and boost total daily production to 150 a day, officials said.

Ustian said he is “very, very much” satisfied with customer reception of its 2010 engines, which are the only ones being sold that utilize exhaust gas recirculation, or EGR, to meet new emissions standards.

Other companies’ engines use selective catalytic reduction, or SCR, technology to meet 2010 Environmental Protection Agency emissions regulations.
