Napolitano Stresses Need for Port Security

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano addressed the need to strengthen cargo screening procedures at a meeting Monday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with law enforcement officials and members of the private sector doing business at ports.

“Effective homeland security requires vigilance at all points of entry to our country — air, land and sea,” Napolitano said.

She called for strong partnerships between federal, state and local law enforcement and private industry, and stressed the need for greater information-sharing among the partners.
