ORLANDO, Fla. — Michelin Americas Truck Tires announced the launch of an on-call service program for trucks, expanding upon a program only for tires.

The Michelin ONCall 2.0 service will allow trucks that have broken down to call a toll-free line and “turn big emergencies into one-time service events,” said Vic Koelsch, chief operating officer of Michelin Americas’ truck tire division.

The program, to be available in January, will include a mechanical and towing service, in addition to its regular tire services, Koelsch said at an Oct. 20 news conference here at American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition.

The service will include a U.S.-based call center with multi-language support, and provide “direct access to diesel technicians for light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks,” Koelsch said. He added that the system would attempt to help get natural-gas fueled vehicles to service centers as well.

It also will include a “LiveTrack” feature to allow fleet managers to monitor events in real-time, and a “FixPix,” which will provide photos of the truck to be serviced taken at the breakdown site that can be viewed online or via a mobile device.
