Meritor Inc. announced its tire inflation system with ThermALERT is a standard/preferred option on Vanguard dry van and CIMC refrigerated trailers.
By preventing underinflation, the system helps to reduce the risk of accidents. Standard ThermALERT wheel-end heat sensing technology helps prevent wheel-end failures from heat buildup and warns drivers of overheating. It also decreases maintenance costs due to longer intervals between retreads and less time spent on manual pressure checking and filling.
More than 8 million fleet tires are protected by Meritor’s tire inflation system. Almost one in every three trailers built today is specified with the tire inflation system, according to the Troy, Mich.-based company.
Studies by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency show tire inflation systems extend tire life by 10% and increase fuel economy an average 1.4%.
China International Marine Containers is a global supplier of logistics and energy equipment, headquartered in Shenzhen. Vanguard National Trailer Corp. is its U.S.-based subsidiary.
