Medical Panel Discusses Driver Rules

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s medical review board backed a proposal to recommend to the agency that drivers who have undergone successful kidney-transplant surgery can resume driving 90 days later.

At an April 7 meeting, the five-member board said it wanted to discuss kidney disease further at its next meeting in July, so as to consider additional recommendations.

The board holds no regulatory development responsibilities, and FMCSA is not obligated to act on its proposals.
