Maine Voters Pass Transportation Bond

Voters in Maine on Nov. 5 approved a $100 million transportation bond. Maine was the only state to have such a spending measure on its ballot.

Approved by 72% of the voters, the bond will help the state pay for a plan that contains $76 million for highway improvements and $27 million for bridges.

The bond also helps the state leverage $154 million in federal and other state funds.

Other transportation spending measures were approved at the county and municipal levels in states that include Arizona, California and Virginia.

In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 62% of the voters agreed to renew their 1-cent local option sales tax for the next 10 years to pay for street maintenance, repair and construction.
