Long Beach Port Delays Container Fee

Commissioners at the Port of Long Beach, Calif., on Dec. 1 voted to delay collection of an infrastructure cargo-container fee for at least six months.

The $15 per 20-foot-equivalent shipping container fee, to be used for road, rail and bridge improvements, was due to be collected beginning Jan. 1.

“Because of the extra time needed to complete the planning and approval process for these many projects, the ports felt it was sensible to delay the implementation of the fee,” said J. Christopher Lytle, deputy executive director of the Port of Long Beach.
