Tom Leedham, a former vice president for the Teamsters, has renewed his challenge to incumbent President James P. Hoffa for the union’s top job.

Leedham ran second behind Hoffa in the December 1998 election for the union leadership. On June 1, he announced his bid to win a five-year term in November 2001.
Elected international vice president in 1996, Leedham served until he ran for president in 1998. He is now active in union affairs in Oregon and Washington, serving as a secretary-treasurer for Local 206 in Portland, Ore., and a recording secretary for a joint council.
While lacking a name with historical significance like his rival, Leedham ran a credible race against Hoffa in 1998. He recorded 40% of the 358,758 votes cast in a three-way race for president.
