LaHood Says No Decision Yet on Truck Weights

WASHINGTON — The Department of Transportation has yet to make a decision on whether to back increased federal truck weight limits, Secretary Ray LaHood said.

Speaking Thursday at the National Press Club, LaHood said there has been “a lot of debate” on the issue but “we haven’t reached a decision [yet]. Stay tuned.”

Several shipper and trucking groups have asked Congress to increase the allowable truck weights on interstate highways to 97,000 pounds from the current limit of 80,000 pounds.
