BTC Express will continue to operate as a separate business under the direction of former owner Jacob Bicz, according to an Aug. 31 statement from Kriska.

“BTC will complement with the other KTG operating companies in the temperature-controlled space,” Kriska CEO Mark Seymour said. “BTC is a safe, well-managed and family-oriented company. That fits perfectly with KTG values.”

The Kriska group of companies include Kriska Transportation, Mill Creek Motor Freight, JMF Transport (1992) Ltée, Transpro Freight Systems Ltd. and Service Freight Systems.

BTC is a second-generation family business that has been owned and operated by Jacob and his brother, Jan, for the past 10 years. The company operates a fleet of 65 tractors and 150 trailers.

“Jan will pursue other interests,” Jacob Bicz said in a statement commenting on the sale, “but I wanted to stay and grow the business.”

Bicz described the association with Kriska as a “great fit.”

“KTG will let us be who we have been but help us be better,” he said without further elaborating.

Kriska Transportation ranks No. 55 on the Transport Topics list of largest for-hire carriers in the truckload/dedicated sector.
